One of the bolts holding my roof on fell into my lap while I was driving today.

That seems like a problem...

I went home and tightened them all.

2 per bracket X 4 brackets, plus two latches... Roof had no chance of flying off, but still... don't like bolts falling in my lap. Went home and tightened them all.

Simplifying and adding lightness.
Your car is trying to be a Lotus. Can't be angry about that.

Maybe someday I'll just be driving along and all the body panels pop off.

My first job was washing cargo planes (727's DC-10's, DC-8's etc.). One day we had a plane come in and the mechanic spent the entire day wandering around under the plane, cursing "Where the f*** did all the screws go! F**, how could they lose that many!"
I'll never forget that...think about it every time I get on a plane...

I had that happen once last year too, so I tightened it up and forgot about it. A couple months ago I was just dropping the miata off to have it shipped, when the damn bolt fell in my lap again. Since I was dropping the car off for shipment, I didn't have any tools, so I tightened it as best I could and left it. Get the car last month and the damn bolt is missing. Can't find it anywhere in the car. . .I guess it must have fallen onto the seat during shipping, and got lost in unloading. Damn.
Moral of the story: Loctite that shit.
